With Erik ten Hag being officially fired as Manchester United manager on Monday, there have been speculations and rumours as to who will become the next head coach of the Red Devils. FC Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez is reportedly one of the candidates to take over as United manager, and an Instagram story shared by his wife on Sunday has only raised the speculation and excitement among the club’s fans. In the photo, Xavi can be seen helping his son with a sticker book, with his son being seen wearing a Manchester United jersey.

Earlier in October, Manchester United’s top management led by INEOS chairman Jim Ratcliffe had held a seven-hour meeting, although there wasn’t any development on the possible change of a manager. However, a disappointing run of results recently led to United parting ways with ten Hag. The final nail in the coffin of Erik ten Hag’s stint coming to an end was Manchester United’s 1-2 loss to West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday.

That left the Red Devils languishing in 14th place with 11 points from nine matches. United have also endured a torrid start to the UEFA Europa League, with just three points from as many matches that has left the team in 21st place. Xavi has played 767 matches for Barcelona from 1998 to 2015, scoring 85 goals. His trophies with Barcelona include eight La Liga titles as well as four UEFA Champions League titles.

In 2019, he took over as the head coach of Qatari club Al Sadd on a two-year contract and guided the team to multiple trophies, including the Qatar Cup and Emir of Qatar Cup twice. Xavi took over as head coach of Barcelona later in 2021, leading the Catalan club to the LaLiga in the 2022-23 season as well as the Spanish Super Cup in 2023.
