Actress Ayo Edebiri has once again voiced her love for Ireland, this time giving recognition to individual counties during a red carpet interview at the Emmy Awards last night.
The Bear star took home the award for Best Actress in a comedy series at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday, January 14, where she gave Ireland a shout-out during her acceptance speech.
"To everybody in Boston, Barbados, Nigeria, Ireland in many ways, thank you so much, I love you,” she said.
The next day she was back on the red carpet for the 2024 Emmy Awards where she addressed her love for Ireland and began dishing out individual shout-outs to Irish counties, with Cork making the cut.
“Shout-out to my people, shout-out to Derry, shout-out to Cork, shout-out to Killarney, shout-out to Dublin,” she said.
The Irish references comes as part of a long-running gag from a 2023 interview, when the rising star joked that she played Jenny the Donkey in The Banshees of Inisherin.
She took a stab at an Irish accent and described how she prepared for the role by living in Ireland for four months.
Since that interview, Ayo Edebiri has been embraced by the Irish population with many tweets and social media posts praising her, describing her as ‘Irelands own’ and ‘the people’s princess’.
“I don’t have Twitter anymore but I’m aware of my connection to Ireland. I’m grateful for the tweets once they’re positive,” she added.
The young actress has been dominating the award season so far, already winning a Golden Globe, Critics Choice award and an Emmy for her portrayal as chef Sydney Adamu in the comedy-drama series The Bear.
