COURTS in Donegal have been put on standby for special sittings for people breaking traffic laws during this weekend’s Donegal International Rally.

Thousands of people are expected to descend on the county in the coming days for the popular annual event.

The three-day event officially gets underway tomorrow and thousands of motor sport enthusiasts are expected to follow the drivers as they move through the stages throughout Donegal.

The event has previously brought a rise in public order and driving offences, including drink and drug driving.

The Courts Service has been put on notice that special court sittings may be needed over the weekend and gardaí locally have been informed that a judge will be on standby if needed.
