Matt Edwards and David Moynihan lead the Donegal International Rally after the first stage in Malin Head on Friday morning.

Driving in a Ford Fiesta, they lead just 0.7 seconds ahead of Keith Cronin and Mickey Galvin on a time of 7.35.8 seconds over the 14.8km in the Inishowen region.

Cronin won the first two rounds in Galway and West Cork, but then lost out to Edwards (Fiesta) on the Circuit of Ireland when the latter outfoxed him on tyre choice late in the event.

Cathal McCourt also had a successful opening as he comes up third, 2.1 seconds adrift of Cronin, while the all-Donegal team of David Kelly and Dean O’Sullivan take fourth position driving in the Volkswagen Polo.

The defending champions Callum Devine and Noel O’Sullivan take their new Skoda Fabia RS to the roads for the first time and currently hold fifth position and are five seconds slower than Edwards.

Kevin Gallagher and Ryan Moore are the first of the modified cars inside the top 10 and are leading Class 14 and are currently 18 seconds adrift of the fastest car.
