Motorcyclist (40s) dies in M50 crash with lorry; road reopens but ...
A man in his 40s has died following a collision between a lorry and a motorcycle on the M50.
The incident took place shortly after 10.15am on Friday morning on the northbound carriageway of the M50 between Junction 7 N4 Liffey Valley and Junction 6 N3 Castleknock.
The driver of the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital for assessment.
The crash site had been closed to facilitate an examination by garda forensic collision investigators. The local coroner has been notified and a postmortem is set to be carried out.
The M50 has reopened after the serious collision which caused “severe” delays for motorists.
"The M50 will reopen momentarily and we anticipate traffic will begin to move gradually,” gardaí said in an update.
“We understand the frustration but all road traffic collisions must be forensically examined for the purpose of investigation.
“Please drive safely on your onwards journey, thank you.”
The M50 northbound was fully closed between Junction 6 and Junction 7 due to the incident.
Traffic in much of the capital is heavy due to the knock-on effect of the M50 closure, with Live Drive reporting the N3, N4, N7, Outer Ring Road, Merrion Road to 3Arena, St John's Road inbound, North Quays and Merrion Square are all very congested.
“Gardaí and emergency services are currently attending a traffic collision at Junction Six Northbound on the M50,” a garda spokesperson said.

“Diversions are in place while the scene is being attended. Delays are expected to continue this afternoon and into this evening.
“We ask motorists to take alternative routes if possible. Your patience and understanding is appreciated.”
Dublin Airport advised passengers to make their way to the airport ahead of time as a result of delays.
“Passengers travelling to Dublin Airport are advised of delays on the M50 northbound due to a traffic collision at Junction 6 (Lucan),” they said.
“Diversions are currently in place at the Lucan exits.
“Please plan your route accordingly and see @GardaTraffic for further updates.”
In a further update this afternoon, Dublin Airport is advising passengers there is a shortage of taxis given the road closure.
“As a result of the ongoing closure of the M50 and heavy traffic around Dublin, there is a shortage of taxis at the airport this afternoon. Passengers are advised to consider using one of the many bus routes servicing the airport,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
Live Drive said: “Severe delays of 90 minutes from J10 (Ballymount). Southbound delays of 30 minutes from J4 (Ballymun). Finglas Road collision at Glasnevin causing delays.”

The M50 account on X said: “All lanes have closed N'bound at J7 Lucan due to a serious collision before J6 Blanch. Emergency services are on scene diverting traffic off at J7. Please avoid the area if possible.”
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the M50 at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
