Roberto Di Matteo's odds to be the next Republic of Ireland manager have been cut after he was spotted at the Boys in Green's clash with Switzerland on Tuesday.

The Italian was pictured in the stands alongside FAI CEO Jonathan Hill during the friendly clash.

That led to his odds being cut from 80/1 to 20/1 by Paddy Power in a few minutes. However, the FAI have ruled out the Champions League-winning manager for the job.

The FAI have yet to appoint a full-time successor to Stephen Kenny since the former Dundalk boss left the role last November.

John O'Shea took charge of Ireland for Tuesday's game as well as Saturday's 0-0 draw with Belgium.

Speaking ahead of the Switzerland clash, O'Shea said: “My remit was to focus on these two games.

“If my remit beforehand was ‘John, you’re the full-time new manager’, it might have been a different situation. The focus for me was ‘these two games, John, look after these games and see what happens then’.

“I am focusing on the last game against Switzerland. My focus has been on that right from the start when this process started.

“Two games, I am focused on that, get the best from the boys, bring this group together with the staff, getting the lads to know my staff as quickly as possible, and getting the bond together quickly, going into two games where you know you’ll face challenges, but two games where you know you can get good results too.”
