Man Utd played very poorly in away defeat at Newcastle

Manchester United are deep in crisis mode once again after a dismal defeat at Newcastle.

United have now won just two of their last five games in all competitions, with their season continuing to reach new depths. Their campaign has left club legend Roy Keane unimpressed, with the former captain now launching a scathing attack on the misfiring Anthony Martial.

His comments on the Frenchman come as David de Gea edges closer to a return to the Premier League following his summer exit from Old Trafford and boss Erik ten Hag was warned he is battling a disgruntled dressing room. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Manchester United news.

Keane issues scathing Martial verdict

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has insisted Anthony Martial should 'drop down the leagues' as he continues to fail to impress. The Frenchman was involved in a bust-up with boss Erik ten Hag as United lost to Newcastle, leaving Keane furious.

"We mention Martial... we forgive Martial because he scores a goal every 14 years. But let me tell you when at Newcastle under pressure, we get that ball into you, you better get hold of that ball to get us up the pitch and a bit of breathing space," he told Sky Sports.

"He’s touching balls off and gives the ball away cheaply. You may as well go down the leagues. You judge Manchester United on what they do in the big matches. If you can’t deal with that, maybe you’re not a Manchester United player."

David de Gea is being lined up for a move to Newcastle, with the Spaniard still a free agent after his exit from United in the summer. The Magpies have been hit by a major blow in the goalkeeping department, with number one Nick Pop dislocating his shoulder.

The 31-year-old could be out for up to five months, with former Red Devil Martin Dubravka expected to take his place. But Newcastle are also thought to be considering a January move for De Gea.

The 33-year-old won the Premier League's Golden Glove award last season and is available for free. Newcastle would be ble to offer a competitive wage, with De Gea ready to return to action.

Ten Hag warned about unsettled squad

United boss Ten Hag has been warned that his players appear to be unhappy with his tactics. The Red Devils fell to a dreadful defeat to European rivals Newcastle on Saturday, with former Spurs star Jermaine Jenas insisting all is not well at Old Trafford.

"I personally thought tonight there were signs that there were a couple of players in there for me that either wasn't happy with the tactics that was put to them or wasn't happy with their positions on the pitch," Jenas said.

"The body language of a team tells you a lot at times and there were a few of them that were sending a message to the manager. There was too many of those moments that I looked at and I thought he (Ten Hag) seems to be such a disciplinarian off the pitch, but I didn't see the same level of respect from the players on the pitch today and that's a big concern."
