Britain's Got Talent fans 'work out' trick as illusionist 'sets Simon ...

15 May 2023

Britain’s Got Talent viewers are convinced that they’ve pieced together how a magician set Simon Cowell on fire on Sunday night's show.

Miki Dark left both the judges and audience awestruck as he put the BGT judge’s head in a box, to then set the box on fire.

The audience gasped in shock, as Alesha Dixon, 44, and Amanda Holden, 52, stood up from their seats as they feared for Simon’s safety.

Hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly were also taken aback and they watched on from the side of the stage.

But 63 year old Simon went unharmed as Miki – who has starred on America’s Got Talent before – went on to unveil his smiling face to the audience.

Fans of the show have since taken to social media to share their theories on how Miki successfully managed to do the trick without hurting anyone.

One person tweeted: “Well obviously there was another box round his head and the fire was between the 2 boxes. Acting he didn't know what was happening. Getting too staged now this."

Someone else added: “A fire proof box sectioned off all round the top and sides, with lighter fluid already doused on beforehand, and water Simon's head completely shielded anyway. This is basic magic that's been done for a century."

“So a box with a false roof, false front and false sides nearly tricked us into thinking he set Simons head on fire,” a third went on.

The performance went down a storm with some viewers though.

One fan said: “Brilliant act about setting Simon's head on fire. But Simon was definitely in on it. Brilliant, nonetheless”.

“Whaaaat! He actually set Simon Cowell's head on fire.. entertaining performance, but Simon doesn't look happy about it understandably!” penned a second.

In the wake of the series so far featuring a handful of dangerous fire-related acts, another viewer expressed concerns about how child-friendly the performances are.

They said: “Why did the producers of #BGT think we wanted to see the stunt with the fire? This series, it seems they just want to show things that ought not to be shown to kids without proper safety explanation. A glib ‘Don’t try this at home’ is not that.”

The show faced similar criticisms last month when one man set himself alight while trying to complete a Rubik’s cube.

Catch the next episode of Britain's Got Talent on Saturday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
