Seamus Power's participation in next week's Open Championship is in doubt after the Waterford star withdrew from the Genesis Scottish Open with a hip injury.

The 36-year-old shot two-over for his opening nine alongside Min Woo Lee and Sam Burns but looked in discomfort throughout the morning.

He traded Bogeys on 11, 14 and 17 with a fine Birdie on the Par-3 13th before calling it a day at the halfway point of his first round at the Renaissance Club.

There has been no word yet on the severity of Power's injury, but with The Open Championship taking place at Royal Liverpool in just a week's time, he faces a race against time to be fit for the 151st edition of the famous event.

The two-time winner on the PGA Tour came into this week's event at North Berwick in decent form after finishing in a tie for 13th at the John Deere Classic last time out.

The Tooreneena native has had an up-and-down season so far and spoke about how he needed to play well over the next couple of weeks to thrust himself back into Ryder Cup contention.

“I know my golf recently has probably put me out of the (Ryder Cup) fold, but this is a step in the right direction,” said Power after the John Deere Classic.

"So the next couple of weeks will be big, especially with a Major coming up in The Open, and then I know that the FedEx Cup play-offs will be huge for me as well. So I’ve got some good opportunities but a lot of work to do.”

Power has played at The Open Championship just once before in his career and missed the cut at St Andrews in 2022.
