Seamus Power has been forced to withdraw from the Scottish Open with a hip injury just a week out from the final major of the season.

The Waterford man completed nine holes of action at the Renaissance Club in Scotland before he was unable to continue his bid for DP World Tour silverware.

It is an untimely setback for Power, who is set to compete at The Open at Royal Liverpool next week and is eager to further his case for Ryder Cup selection.

Power - who secured a welcome T13 finish at the John Deere Classic last weekend - has been in mixed form this season.

Power won the Bermuda Championship in what was a strong start to the campaign, but has missed the cut in five of his last 10 events since The Players Championship.

The extent of the injury has not been revealed and it is possible that he could have withdrawn as a precaution ahead of his major duties next week.

However, he is all too aware of his need to find form and lock down a wildcard selection for the Ryder Cup with captain Luke Donald keeping a close eye.

'I know my golf recently has probably put me out of the (Ryder Cup) fold, but this is a step in the right direction,' he said of his return to form last week.

Power faces competition from John Deere Classic winner Sepp Straka, DP World Tour stars Victor Perez and Adrian Meronk and the in-form Padraig Harrington for a wildcard selection.
