Met Eireann has issued a weather alert for County Cork as heavy rainfall is expected.

A severe weather warning for rain has been issued for County Cork.

Met Eireann has issued a level orange weather alert for the county as heavy rainfall is expected on Tuesday, October 17.

The alert has been issued from 6am on Tuesday until 6am on Wednesday, October 18.

Met Eireann has cautioned the public that County Cork will experience spells of heavy rain from Tuesday morning onwards.

Localised flooding is also expected, while poor visibility and blustery east to southeast winds are expected to make for difficult driving conditions.

The meteorological service has also warned those by the coast that waves overcoming coastal barriers may also be a danger at high tide.

An alert for County Waterford is also expected to be affected by the weather event.
